What is Nouns Heroes?

Nouns Heroes is a turn-based fantasy strategy game. Every turn is one day: you move your heroes across a 3D adventure map, flag mines for gold, wood, ore, crystal, gems and Noggle Dust, pick up treasure, fight the wild Nouns that guard the passes, and build one new building a day in each of your towns. Every seven days new creatures move into your dwellings, ready to join your army.

There are eight factions, each with 11 creatures: Nouns like Donuts, Tacos, Floppies and Clippies, and monsters like the Gummy Bear, the Griffin and the Sea Serpent. The Snack Kingdom, the Pixel Guild, the Haunted Hollow, the Cloud Citadel, the Wild Grove, Splash Harbor, the office-block Cubicle Keep and the fiery Ember Court each fight their own way. At tiers 2, 3 and 4 a town can only ever build one of three creature dens (two Nouns and a monster), so two players of the same faction can field very different armies, and a Legend Lair brings in one Tier 5 legend a week: a Gummy Dragon, Mecha Titan, Bone Wyrm, Thunderbird, Ancient Treant, Kraken, Iron Golem or Phoenix.

Heroes fight on the battlefield. A party holds up to seven heroes and creature stacks; heroes stand with the army, attack, and cast one spell a turn from schools like Feast, Glitch, Spooky, Sky, Nature, Tide and Blaze. Units move freely around the field and its obstacles, and a unit that is hit strikes back at the same time. Every level a hero picks a skill, and their two best skills give them a class, like Flame Knight, Weather Witch or Midnight Snacker.

Two Nounish twists run through every game. A daily Noun auction puts one new hero up for sealed bids each day, and the highest bid wins them at sunset. And on the last day of every week the kingdoms vote on the DAO Proposal of the Week, such as Week of Donuts, Treasury Refund or Fog Week, which changes the rules for the whole next week.

Features

Heroes on the battlefield

Your heroes fight alongside their army and cast a spell each turn. Knocked-out heroes get back up after a won battle, and beaten heroes run home to rest at the inn.

Free-moving tactical battles

No grid: units walk around rocks and trees, fliers soar over them, shooters fire from the back, and every hit is answered at the same time. Sieges add walls and towers that shoot.

Choose your army

Each town builds one of three dens at tiers 2, 3 and 4: two Nouns and a monster. A Lil Nursery makes tier-1 Lil Nouns cheaper and more plentiful.

Monsters and legends

Every faction has its own animated monsters, from Gummy Bears and Glitch Bugs to a Kraken and a Phoenix. The Legend Lair raises one Tier 5 legend a week, the strongest unit in the game.

The Creaturepedia

Every creature in the game, faction by faction and tier by tier, with its stats and what its abilities do. Open it from the title screen or the in-game menu.

Thirteen skills and dozens of classes

Combat, Tactics, Nobility, Scouting, Wisdom, Archery and the seven magic schools, each with five ranks. Your two best skills give your hero a class.

The daily Noun auction

With a Tavern you can bid once a day, in secret, for the hero on offer. Bid high, or save your gold for buildings.

The DAO Proposal of the Week

Every Town Hall gives you a vote and a DAO Hall gives two more. Proposals boost growth, hand out gold or Noggle Dust, speed heroes up or slow everyone down.

The Golden Noggles

Read the obelisks to fill in the puzzle map, dig with a hero, carry the Golden Noggles home and build their Monument for a huge bonus.

Towns in 3D

Every building you put up appears around your castle: walls and towers, the mage tower, the tavern, the market, the DAO Hall and your creature dens.

An original score

Its own orchestral themes for the title, four kinds of land, towns, battles and the boss fight, plus sounds for every school of magic.

Artifacts and sets

Noggles in every colour, party hats, rocket boots and the four-piece Full Noun set.

Caravans and map dwellings

Flag creature dens out on the map and send their Nouns home by caravan.

Computer rivals

Easy, Normal and Hard computer kingdoms that build, recruit, bid, vote and come looking for you.

Nouns Heroes questions

Is Nouns Heroes free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, with no ads and no sign-up.

Is it OK for kids?

Yes. Battles are cartoonish: knocked-out Nouns just flop over and fade away, and beaten heroes run home to rest. There is no chat.

How long is a game?

A small map takes about half an hour; large maps with four kingdoms can last several evenings. The game saves at the start of every turn, so you can stop and Continue later.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. It plays sideways with big buttons, tap to move and pinch to zoom.

How do I win?

Usually by capturing every rival town. Some maps and chapters ask for more, like building the Golden Noggles Monument or beating the Grump King.
