Jambon-Beurre
Paris’s best-selling sandwich: crackly baguette, good salted butter and thin slices of ham. Simple perfection in 5 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 very fresh baguette
- 40 g good salted butter, softened
- 4 slices jambon de Paris (cooked ham)
- 4 cornichons, sliced (optional)
Method
- Cut the baguette in half to make two sandwiches, then slice each piece open lengthways, leaving one side hinged.
- Spread the butter generously right to the edges of both cut sides.
- Fold the ham slices in loose ribbons along the bread, add cornichons if you like, close and eat straight away.
Tips
- Everything depends on the bread and butter: buy the baguette the same day and use the best butter you can find.
- Cornichons are a popular addition, but purists keep it to three ingredients.
