Hurricane
The French Quarter party drink: light and dark rum shaken with passion fruit, citrus and grenadine into a sunset-red cooler.

Ingredients
- 30 ml light (white) rum
- 30 ml dark rum
- 2 passion fruit, pulp scooped out (or 60 ml passion fruit juice)
- 30 ml Orange juice
- 15 ml fresh lime juice
- 15 ml Simple syrup (1:1 sugar and water)
- 1 tsp Grenadine syrup
- Ice
- 1 orange slice, to garnish (optional)
- 1 maraschino cherry, to garnish (optional)
Method
- Put both rums, the passion fruit pulp, orange juice, lime juice, simple syrup and grenadine in a cocktail shaker.
- Fill with ice and shake hard for 15 seconds, until the shaker is frosty.
- Strain into a tall hurricane glass filled with fresh ice (a fine strainer catches the passion fruit seeds if you prefer).
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry on a cocktail stick and serve with a straw.
Tips
- Contains alcohol, and plenty of it. For an alcohol-free version, try the Virgin Hurricane in the Bar kitchen.
- Batch it in a jug for a party, but add the ice only when you serve.
- With 60 ml of rum this is about two standard drinks, though the fruit hides it: sip it slowly and drink water alongside.
